Comparing 3 great flash drives., June 15, 2015
    By
    Rich T.

** Please note that I mistakenly reviewed the S25 that was sold by Costco and posted it on the S75. The speed I got on the S25 is on par with the speeds claimed by lexar as well as others that I’ve seen for the S75 so I left this in place. I will remove this review more of you feel it really is out of place **

In the last month, I purchase 3 different 128gb flash drives for $30 on separate sales that came up. So when the price is the same, it all comes down to speed when comparing these drives.

    Drives:
PNY Turbo 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive (Newegg Deal)
HP x702w 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive (Fry’s Electronics Deal)
Lexar JumpDrive S75 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive (Costco Deal)

    Useable Space (NTFS Formatted):
    – PNY – 119GB
    – HP – 116GB
    – Lexar – 119GB

    Benchmarks (Crystal Disk Mark):
    – PNY:
    Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 87.825 MB/s
    Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 77.465 MB/s
    Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 6.178 MB/s [ 1508.3 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 0.829 MB/s [ 202.4 IOPS]
    – HP:
    Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 132.768 MB/s
    Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 57.274 MB/s
    Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 7.834 MB/s [ 1912.6 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 1.718 MB/s [ 419.4 IOPS]
    – Lexar:
    Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 97.070 MB/s
    Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 108.641 MB/s
    Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 7.035 MB/s [ 1717.5 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 0.938 MB/s [ 229.0 IOPS]

    Conclusion:
PNY is the most popular on Amazon because it has the lowest price normally, but when you are able to find deals that equalize the price, it no longer looks that great. I ran Windows To Go on both the PNY and HP. The PNY had a lot of lag because of the low read speed. HP ran well because it has the best performance with 4kb files out of all 3.

The Lexar is a good drive with great write speeds. Good for uses where you are copying in more than you are reading out.

My preference is the Lexar for the size and the great write speeds. The HP is great for web developers to store their projects on because it performs well for reading and writing small files. The PNY is good because it stays at a low price for the most part.

Fast, includes encryption software, April 2, 2015

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
For the price I paid ($15), I’m happy with my purchase. Here are my thoughts/observances on the drive:

The packaging has to be destroyed to get to the drive. The slider on the drive to expose the USB port is stiff, difficult to use. The drive in Windows 8.1 reports as 29.8 GB (32,000,409,600 bytes).

Pre-loaded on the drive is a version of EncryptStick Lite, which occupies about 45 MB on the drive, and only ran once I clicked on the executable. The software only seems to have the AES encryption abilities of the full software. On the EncryptStick website, the full software currently costs $13 (the site claims a $15 discount from the normal $40 price for Lexar JumpDrive users, but that doesn’t seem to affect anything).

I ran CrystalDiskMark on the drive, and got the following results:
    Sequential Read : 151.485 MB/s
    Sequential Write : 41.826 MB/s
    Random Read 512KB : 137.080 MB/s
    Random Write 512KB : 14.113 MB/s
    Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 4.812 MB/s [ 1174.9 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 0.739 MB/s [ 180.4 IOPS]
    Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 5.574 MB/s [ 1360.8 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 0.377 MB/s [ 92.0 IOPS]

    Test : 1000 MB [E: 0.1% (0.0/29.8 GB)] (x5)
    Date : 2015/04/02 15:57:03
    OS : Windows 8.1 [6.3 Build 9600] (x64)

Fast, cheap, might be a little concerned about longevity though., March 16, 2015
    By

This was one of the cheapest USB 3 drives I could find. I am not at all disappointed. I can write 10GB of data in less than 5 min and can transfer back off that same amount in under 1.5 minutes. Incredibly fast considering the price point.

My only concern is that the plastic feels a little cheap, so I would be a little concerned about the longevity of the thing. But in the last 3 months it has been stellar for transferring roughly 10 GB to and from once a week.
